The budget laptops can be real life savers or they can make your life a living hell. How can you choose the best one? By getting informed and as informed as possible. The trick is to read as many reviews as possible, get the opinion of experts but don’t forget about the users either.

Here are two really cheap laptops that might suit your needs:

Dell Inspiron 15R got a decent rating from specialists, 3.5 out of 5 and 3 points from 31 users. Its market values is somewhere around $450.

It comes with an Intel Core i3 M350 dual core processor with a 2.26 GHz speed. The memory is of 4 GB and for storage space you have a decent sized 500 GB hard drive running at 7,200 rpm. Everything seems good up until we get to the graphics processor, the fact that it’s an integrated Intel GMA HD will not allow you any real gaming.

Dell Inspiron 15R is for you if you are looking for a budget midsized laptop with a decent performance and design paired with a strong battery life.  Its weight, 6.7 pounds with the adapter, does not allow comfortable traveling, so you have to take that into consideration.

You also have features like: optical drive, 4 USB ports, one of which is an eSATA combo. For networking you can choose from wireless or modem.

The Toshiba Satellite C655-S5049 is also a mid sized laptop at a great price. You can buy it for even less than Dell Inspiron 15R, for about $380. Its ratings are not as good, getting only 3 out of 5 points from editors and 2.5 points from the users.

The reason might be the single core 2.2GHz Intel Celeron 900 processor or the fact that it does not come with a web cam. Also, if you need a lot of USB ports unfortunately this laptop only has two.

But it does have its strong points too, like it only weighs 5.8 pounds with adapter. It has a 2GB DDR3 internal memory with 1066MHz speed. The 250 GB hard rive is less than in an average laptop but that’s not a major issue. You also have an integrated Intel GMA 4500MHDgraphics processor. Feature wise it comes with a VGA port, an optical drive and the basic modem and wireless internet connection options.11
