You may find it difficult to have two computers, one for travel and one for your desk. If you use your laptop with a cellular modem to work on the move in a warehouse, having to switch constantly between a laptop and desktop machine is really an inconvenience.
If so, you may want to look at what are called docking stations and start considering how to dock your laptop. If you have a Dell computer, you can purchase compatible docking stations for it directly from the Dell store in your city. For a proper use of a docking station, read the instructions provided by the manufacturer. The method of how to dock a computer varies, depending on the station’s manufacturer. Dell itself has more than one type, when talking about docking stations.

A station of this kind is a box that sits on your desk and into which you can plug your laptop. The docking station provides additional resources, such as power, a monitor, full-sized keyboard, network interface and other. The idea is that you don’t need those extras while you’re mobile, but the docking station makes them available when you’re at your desk. The added resources could be enough to let the one computer meet your fixed and mobile requirements. Don’t assume you’ll save money with a docking station, however.
The electrical interface between laptop and docking station will be a proprietary connector; the physical fit of the laptop into the docking station will be unique to the specific model. That means that you’re likely to have only one source for the docking station, which boosts cost.
When you intend to buy a docking station and you find a lot of stations for your laptop, that can also fit other laptops, try to be a little unsure of this, because every laptop has its features.
The best way is to contact the manufacturer or a technician from which you have bought the computer and let him advice you, because a specialist will always know what are the latest releases in the computer technology and what of these releases can suit your computer. If you had performed some operations to your computer, that changed the computer’s form, you have to specify this to the technician and probably would be better to take him the laptop for seeing it.
Especially on the Dell laptops, you can encounter the situation in which a large capacity battery, added after a year or two of computer’s use, changes the shape of the computer. Some batteries can be placed in front of the computer, therefore they change entirely the shape and the weight of the laptop. The weight has no importance when docking a computer, unless it weighs a ton or so, but the shape definitely has.11
