The HP G42 offers a complete computing experience at an affordable price. It is an inexpensive portable with a decent hardware performance.

Like other HP portable PC’s, the G42 has a modern, appealing look. Available in grey color, it captures light without blinding reflectivity. The textured imprint finish with a triangular pattern confers a graceful and subtle touch. The display and the keyboard (full size, comfortable) are black, giving a tasteful contrast. All in all, the resulting design has a quiet elegance.
Being a budget laptop, it offers a simple selection of components: a AMD Athlon II x2 P340 processor at 2.2 GHz, 3 GB RAM, 320 GB of hard drive, integrated video – ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250; webcam and microphone are included and the 14 inch widescreen display has a 1366 x 768 resolution.
Performance is good from the Turion II processor and the faster 7200 rpm hard drive, but the battery life is not that competitive. But it is considered a decent system for those who want to spend under $600.
In terms of ports, the G42 model has a HDMI outport, a VGA out, Ethernet jack, two USB 2.0 ports, headphone and microphone jacks and a multiformat card reader. This laptop comes preinstalled with the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and Microsoft Office Starter 2010 version.
